Lighting Design in the Netherlands Dutch lighting design Norwegian Design Award

January 2, 2010 / Nederlicht, 100 years of Dutch lighting design
With more than 100 lighting fixtures of Dutch designers, the exposition ‘Nederlicht’ at the Gorcums Museum gives an interesting overview of developments in lighting design in the Netherlands throughout the years. For this exposition a floor version of Manhattan lighting, over 20 years ago designed by Alfred van Elk for Philips, has been selected. This lighting fixture is part of a series of consumer luminaires, consisting of wall lighting, table lamps, floor lighting and suspended lighting fittings. Later developed series were prepared with infrared and could be remotely dimmed and turned on/off.
These ranges were manufactured by Philips in 1989 and put on to the market world-wide. The series was recognized with the Norwegian Design Award.
Next to designs of Philips, lighting objects are shown of, among others, Rietveld, Gispen, Lumiance, Droog Design and Moooi.
The exhibition is open from December 11th 2009 until February 7th 2010.
